Product Description

The Roamer Leash is Ruffwear's adjustable stretch-webbing leash that can be hand-held or worn around the waist for a dynamic hands-free leash experience. It is ideal for running with your dog. The webbing creates a bungee, absorbing any shocks if your dog gives a sudden tug. This allows you to maintain control and balance on your feet while your doggie enjoys a generous range of movement.

Wavelength stretch webbing keeps humans and canines connected while allowing an extended range for roaming and exploring. The user-friendly side release buckle, reinforced with an aluminum Uniloop, provides exceptional strength, while Ruffwear’s unique Talon Clip™ offers a strong and secure leash-to-collar attachment.

The Ruffwear exclusive Talon Clip is strong providing a secure connection and it is designed to be attached easily with just one hand. The Roamer lead has a comfortable padded handle and features a traffic handle to keep your dog under control in those situations where you need to keep him close.

  1. Ruffwear Roamer Leash - gives you so many options! review rating

We are just starting our reactive gsd on loose-lead training. This lead offers us many options - the main handle can slip over the wrist or be extended to go round the waist for hands free walking. The lead is stretchy, so tension is not passed down the lead and there's another useful hand hold near the dog end, so if you need a closer hold, it's easy. It's long enough to allow the dog some exploring/sniffing freedom without taking your shoulder out of joint too. So far, well worth the extra pennies for this lead.

  2. A great leash for the right dog review rating

The quality of this leash is first class. I have a new rescue dog who pulls on the leash and, while it’s saving my arm from being jolted out of its sockets, it probably isn’t the best leash for training to walk quietly as the bungee softens the quick tug to alert too much. The traffic handle is excedllent for city walking though. Because of the quality of Ruffwear, I’ll get the Ruffwear Slackline while we get to know each other and she learns to walk more calmly.

An excellent lead that you can tie around your waist. Good quality. Exactly what I would expect from Ruffwear.

  4. Good, but just two things I'd ask for... review rating

Used this for the first time on a run yesterday with my 33kg English Pointer, Hugo. I bought this for short sections of our trails where I'd rather have him tethered than running free. In use the leash works really well - 5 stars. The elasticity and length are perfect (no tripping or sudden jabs). The grab handle at the collar is perfect and the waist buckle system works well. However, I hate stopping, so encountered some minor issues, which I think could be solved with a re-design; (1) when Hugo is tethered and running ahead, if I need to pull him close quickly, there's a lot of stretchy section to deal with - it could do with another mid-length grab handle; (2) when Hugo is running free and I have the leash secured around my waist, there's a lot of loose leash to secure around the body, which I struggled with. I think the mid-length grab handle could also solve this; (3) the clasp is a good design but I found it a bit slippery, especially in the cold with a thin pair of gloves. It could do with some texture rather than smooth sides for ease of gripping. These are all minor niggles, I was very pleased overall.

  5. Previous version was better review rating

I had been quite happy with the previous version of this leash, but after three years it had gotten worn, and I needed a replacement. While the elastic part is tighter (and better) in the 2014 version, the metal buckle is poorly designed. You have to twist and yank quite hard to open it - as opposed to the previous version that had a super easy click-open plastic buckle.
Furthermore, after my dog had chewed the leash ONCE the nylon split open, and a few days later the leash broke!
(I know, the leash is not meant for chewing, but it happens, and the previous version withstood the occasional chewing for years)
